Owners Notes

When we were looking to upgrade from our 3-bedroom home with no yard in Flemington, we had quite a wish list: 4+ bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a good yard, a large new kitchen, plenty of storage and a good location close to the river and quality schools.  One of the key things we were seeking was space to be able to grow our family having come from a much smaller property and a versatile floor plan to cater for both a young family as well as teens and beyond as we’d planned to make this move our last.

When we first inspected the property the feeling of space was immediate and with a toddler at the time being able to walk through the home straight onto the back decking and yard without any trip hazards was immensely reassuring, as was the privacy and security of the high side gate.

Not having to do anything to the home was refreshing having just completed a renovation.  We did however make our own improvements and touches adding solar panels to the roof, upgrading two of the split systems and the switchboard, and most recently freshly painting the entire indoors and as well as investing in a quality stone bench top and new Miele dishwasher (we now wish we’d done it sooner and had the time to enjoy our fabulous kitchen!)

With 5 bedrooms we initially wondered if we would need all of the space, however we quickly ‘grew into it’.  When our second child came long we decided to keep their bedrooms downstairs close to us and have the guest bedroom and office upstairs (we’d planned to swap and move them upstairs when they got a bit older so they’d have their own retreat).  My husband who works from home chose the large upstairs front facing bedroom as his office to take advantage of the views over the valley.

On the front porch we’ve spent many evenings enjoying a ‘sundowner’ watching the sunset.  As ‘foodies’ we’ve cooked up a storm entertaining both indoors and outdoors in both summer and winter months with the children playing on the grass which has been large enough for soccer games, play equipment, and the cubby house which will remain with the property (we also recently had gas extended to access the BBQ). The backyard has an automated irrigation system that utilises pop up sprays to water the lawn, and inline drip irrigation that waters the garden beds and raised planters.

My husband with his green thumb has planted huge vegetable and herb planters along the side of the house which has been hugely successful!

Our gas fire place is so cosy in winter and manages to heat the entire downstairs, however on those bitterly cold mornings we simply turn on the huge split system and after only a few minutes it’s cut through the cold.  Most of the rooms that required it also have their own split systems to cool in the summer and warm the rooms in the winter time.

The double tandem garage with rear access has been super handy for accessing the rear with garden products and has plenty of room to store all of the tools and sports equipment as well as a clothes line which is handy in the winter months.

Having 3 living spaces has enabled us all to be able to ‘do our own thing’ with 2 Foxtel points so there’s no arguments around who wants to watch what!  I’ll miss our spacious master bedroom with its serene feel and the huge ensuite housing the “his and hers” basins.  The ample storage provides every bedroom with a full wall BIR, there’s a linen cupboard and storage under the stairs that we converted to a cellar as it stays nice and cool throughout the year.

Making the decision to move the family to the Peninsula was not an easy one – we wish we were able to transport this home down there along with the wonderful neighbours and school community. We’ll miss walking around the river, the fabulous local cafe’s and the kids will miss all of the wonderful parks in the area.  We hope the next owners moving into the home enjoy it as much as we have.
