Owners Notes

What we love about this home:

We have the best views in Eaglemont!

The home is located at the highest point in Eaglemont and has spectacular views across to the Kinglake Ranges and Dandenong Ranges on one side and the Melbourne city skyline on the other.

The house has suited having teenagers and young adults living at home, with ensuites for all bedrooms and separate living spaces. It has also been used as a home office, providing both comfortable living spaces and a large work space.

Sitting on the front porch in the quiet of the evening, looking out over the garden to the distant ranges.

Winter evenings by the open fire with the family.

Watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks from the top storey.

What we love about this suburb:

The trees, the colours in autumn, the gardens in spring.

The local parks and secret paths and ‘village greens’ to explore when walking the dog.

The extensive parklands and Yarra River nearby.

The quaint local village and easy access to the train station.

Why we are selling:

The Jones’ family have lived and worked from this home for three generations. As young people, we are ready to stretch our wings and explore the world. This is a lovely home and area to raise a family and we have loved living here for the past seven years, however we are heading off for the inner-city living experience and overseas study and travel.

Any other information:

The house at 9 Albert Jones Court has been occupied by the current family for three generations and the property owned by four generations. In the late 1800s, Benjamin Lloyd Jones immigrated from Wales in search of gold. He did well but his partner stole most of the gold and Benjamin invested what he had left into a horse and dray and carted supplies from Melbourne to the goldfields. This was a profitable business and he left considerable wealth to his son Albert Jones who bought land in Eaglemont. Albert built the family home at 10 Albert Jones Court. The estate was eventually divided up between his son, also Albert Jones and his daughter, who inherited the family home, with Albert (Jnr) building a new home in Mount Street. (Albert Jones Snr also donated the land to the community that is now known as Albert Jones Reserve.) Albert’s son, Kennith Lloyd Jones, was given the land at 9 Albert Jones Court in the late 1950s, and built the back part of the current residence, which he designed himself. With its open plan living/dining, large windows and flat roof, the house was considered very modern at the time. The front two storey section was built in 1983 and affectionately nicknamed ‘The Bunker’ by the neighbours. Kennith resided there until 2013, and in 2014 the property was inherited by his two grand-daughters, Evie and Sian Jones.
