Owners Notes

We have loved living at 2 Goodwin Street, Preston.

We found the property by chance when we were driving by and saw the for sale board out the front.  We were so young, just starting out in our careers and terrified to take on a mortgage, but we instantly fell in love with the illusive combination of the house – character and sensible floor plan!

My husband likes the practical, minimalist, modern aesthetic.  I appreciate the whimsical.  We had found our perfect home.

Now almost 7 years later, we are sad to leave.  The house is full of memories – initially of boisterous dinner parties, and New Years Eve gatherings.  The pursuits of the young.  It was then our son’s first home, and fast became a meeting place for play dates, and park outings.  Our three and a half year old describes it as “his bestest house ever” and he doesn’t want to leave.

We have enjoyed our family time in the light filled open plan kitchen, living dining area, and with a busy little boy in the house, we have benefited from the seamless flow of indoor, outdoor living.  The silver birch in the middle of the courtyard has shaded many summer play sessions.

We have loved, and utilised the Merri Creek pedestrian/bike path, accessible at the end of our street.  Turn left and follow your feet to Ceres for a coffee, and for the kids to feed the chooks.  Turn right for the farm gate sales, hot coffee and live music on a Saturday morning.  Cross the swing bridge and walk up to Nicholson Street for Ruby’s Café, with a menu based on jaffles and great coffee.

We will also miss the sense of community that is strong in this pocket of West Preston.  We will miss all the familiar faces at the two wonderful parks that are only a short stroll away.  We will miss our neighbours, who have always had a ready smile, a ladder to borrow and a laugh to share.  A great example of the friendly neighbourhood here was when we had the back fence replaced a few years ago.  A familiar neighbourhood situation, often rife with difficulty.  For us, it involved four houses, and was arranged with a coffee meeting and a shake of hands.
