Owners Notes

What we love about this home:

After the gritty urban life in St Kilda, we found Dunstan St a haven of peacefulness – a very quiet neighbourhood with no traffic noise.  We have really loved the sense of space – high ceilings throughout, a wide hallway, a large open living/dining area, all with a sweeping outlook to the garden. Outside we have loved our private, landscaped garden and the extensive deck and pergola which has been fantastic for barbecues or just reading a book and sipping a coffee.

The heritage features of the house are fantastic – beautiful original 1930’s deco era ceiling roses in the front 4 rooms, a cosy fireplace, beautiful beveled glass doors, picture rails carried right through into the modern extension, and quality original timber floors throughout.

The garden is a seasonal delight – reds, golds and oranges in the autumn when the leaves turn, brilliant new green foliage in the spring, bulbs in the raised gravel garden that provide colour and interest in every season. There are several fruit trees – fig, mandarin, apple, carob. And the garden is very low water-need, being planted mostly with Mediterranean plants – plus we have 14,000 litres of tank water available when needed, with working pumps.

What we love about this suburb:
We love West Preston for being accessible to the city (less than 10kms), while still maintaining a quiet lifestyle and leafy streets.  The area is vibrant, and changing all the time – we have seen the number of interesting cafes multiply since we have been here, plus the addition of a craft wine/beer shop, a large supermarket, home/giftware – a transformation in just 13 years.  And the local businesses are very friendly.

We love having great transport almost at our doorstep – the trams leave for the city every 5 minutes during the morning peak, and you always get a seat because the terminus is just up the road. It is a wonderful multicultural neighbourhood, with established and recent immigrants providing a rich cultural tapestry to the suburb. It is urban and accessible, but is also very easy to access nature along Merri and Edgar Creeks, with some of the best bike trails in Melbourne only a short ride away, linking to all the main suburban bike trails.

Why we are selling:

We are going to build a new home down the Bass Coast – moving to a sea change – and will rent in the north while we are building.

Vendor Review

Nelson Alexander

Nelson Alexander, and particularly Michelle Portelli, worked incredibly hard on our behalf, and achieved a spectacular result. As first time vendors we really appreciated all the advice on prepping our house for sale, and found them extremely responsive. The team approach, which pulled in the strength of all the inner north NA offices, was very reassuring and kept a strong flow of buyers viewing our house. Thank you for your great efforts!
