A successful combination of old and new.
Owners Notes
This house has been a gift for our family. If we could fold it up and put it in our suitcase, we would. In the six years we’ve lived here, it’s been an elegant, cosy and peaceful home, both before and after we became parents.
The house was fully – and very thoughtfully – renovated when we bought it, so we’ve not had to do a thing aside from basic maintenance. The spacious, light-filled back room has played host to both sparkling summer parties and intimate winter dinners.
The front, older part of the house has a lovely, warm feeling, the perfect backdrop to relaxing with a book and a glass of wine. The house has been the perfect size for our little family (not to mention the occasional house guest). It’s on a quiet street with lovely neighbours and a real sense of community.
We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to public transport (58 tram on Grantham St, Jewel Station), cafes (Sweet Evelyn and Miss Marmalade on Union St have been our second homes) and pubs and bars (Sydney Rd, but also the beer garden at The Union is lovely on a sunny afternoon).
Gorgeous Temple Park is around the corner, and the larger Gilpin and Clifton parks are just short walks too. The zoo is a 5-min tram ride away – in summer, you can often hear the roar of a lion at dusk – and the city and the Queen Vic Market are only a 15/20-min tram ride away.
