Congestion Levy Changes

The State Government will be more than doubling the territory impacted by the current congestion levy in the new year. This is widely tipped to have repercussions for small business as the levy in the new territory will be $950 per car space per annum.

From 2015 there will be two levy areas which will be subject to different rates. The levy areas are marked out in the below map with the category 1 levy area being bounded by the red line while the category 2 levy area is bounded by the blue line, excluding the category 1 area. The SRO has prepared a guide on the congestion levy for the Category 2 area.

The additional suburbs detailed in blue include; Brunswick, Abbotsford, Carlton, Fitzroy, Parkville, Collingwood, Kensington, North Melbourne, West Melbourne, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Albert Park and St Kilda.
