Owners Notes

Welcome to our much-loved family home.

We bought this house in March 1982 on the same day our third daughter was born. She now has two daughters of her own.

The attractive park at the end of Mangalore Street is named after Arthur Calwell, leader of the Australian Labor Party in the 1950s and 60s. Our house was the original Calwell family home. If you look closely at the grouting in the front entry alcove, you can see where the Calwell children have written their names.

The people we bought the house from added a family room extension to the Calwell home. In 1993, we added the second-story extension. Subsequently we opened up rooms to improve line of sight and the flow from the front to the back of the house. We find it particularly pleasing to sit in the lounge and look through two sets of double doors and the family room windows into the back garden. It is also pleasing to look over the primary school grounds from the upstairs lounge and to stroll through the back gate onto the school oval, the scene of many football, frisbee and kite-flying adventures the family has enjoyed.

Our family has had forty treasured years at 25 Mangalore Street. Four children have grown up here. The house has hosted eighteenth and twenty-first birthday parties, two engagement parties and a wedding. It has also been home to a number of international exchange students.

We have attempted to keep the garden true to the style of the house while, over the years, accommodating fairy dells, cubby houses, tree houses, an in-ground trampoline, flying foxes, play equipment and a basketball half court. The house adapted well to the growing family’s needs. The library has served as professional rooms and, over the time of the pandemic, the two studies have meant that family members have been able to work comfortably from home.

As you can see upstairs, the house is now a happy place for grandchildren. However, it is time for us to move on from such a big family home. We wish the next family many more years in this beautiful house and garden. We hope you will be as happy here as we have been.
