Welcome to 31 Barrow Street, Brunswick…

 This quirky, warm and welcoming home had us hooked from the start.  It didn’t exactly have ‘street appeal’, but its personality shined through – a true diamond in the rough.

When we bought the property, the front garden was really a pile of overgrown vines and Yukkas, with a car park where the verandah should have been.

One of the first things we did was get the bullnose verandah reinstated, along with the rest of the house’s roof and guttering.  We also quickly put in hydronic heating throughout and wardrobes in two of the bedrooms.

This home is so easy to live in – it’s spacious, yet feels cozy, is warm and light-filled.  One of our favourite spaces is the lounge room.  It’s perfect for a quiet night in, but also easily and comfortably holds its space when you have a few friends around.

The kitchen is very functional and is a great place to sit and have a chat at the end of the day when getting dinner ready, overlooking the back garden.

The back of the house used to be all concrete with an old shed taking up way too much space.  Now it’s our own private oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of Lygon St and Sydney Rd.  It’s a perfect little suntrap.  And if we really want to forget we are in the city, we head down the street and take a long walk along the Merri Creek, either towards Coburg (with Ruby’s café being a nice treat near the end) or towards Ceres – both a perfect antidote to a long week of working in the city.

We are spoilt for choice with amazing cafes and restaurants at our doorstep.  We have A Minor Place at the end of the street, East Brunswick Project (our favourite) a couple of blocks away on Lygon Street, with East Elevation and Hellenic Republic just a short stroll from there.

It’s incredibly easy to get into the city, with your choice of either a Lygon St or Sydney Rd tram no more than a 5 min walk away, or Anstey station just up the road.

We have family overseas that needs us at the moment, which is seeing us move from this beautiful home, otherwise we wouldn’t be going anywhere for a long time.

We truly hope someone falls in love with this house as we did, and is able to call it home.
