Owners Notes

While our family is looking forward to the next chapter, I know that we’re all going to miss living at 11 Freeman Street. There is just so much to love about this home.

When we bought the house back in 2006 we had just returned from a few years living overseas and where initially looking to buy in our old Richmond neighborhood. Unexpectedly we decided to take a look at North Fitzroy as a place to live and 11 Freeman Street was the first place we saw. We immediately fell in love. It had everything we wanted; three good-sized bedrooms, a spacious and central bathroom, plenty of living space, a glorious northern aspect and low maintenance gardens. But what really grabbed us was the location – just a few kilometres from the city, public transport connections at our doorstep along Brunswick St and Nicholson St, Rathdowne St Village & Curtain Square park a short walk in one direction with the spectacular Edinburgh Gardens and North Fitzroy Village a few minutes walk in the other direction. Not to mention walking access to the shopping and dining meccas of Brunswick and Smith Streets. Rose Cottage truly is a beautiful period home in a location where lifestyle choices leave you spoilt for choice. Ten years on we can honestly say it has proved to be one of the best purchase decisions we have ever made.

After two years we decided to renovate the house, demolishing the rear lounge and kitchen areas to create a huge open plan space incorporating the kitchen, meals and living areas, complete with full width bi-fold doors and a rear deck to provide a luxurious indoor outdoor living configuration, perfect for entertaining, which we have enjoyed everyday since. The addition of ducted heating and cooling throughout the entire house also meant that our new living environment was always perfectly comfortable through the depths of winter and the peaks of summer.

As our children grew we only learned to appreciate the house and it’s location more and more. A short distance in any direction and you’ll find supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, library’s, swimming pools, bars, schools, deli’s, greengrocers, you name it – the best of everything you’ll ever need, all within easy walking distance.

Ten years on this home has served us so well, but for us it’s time for a new adventure. But we know that whoever is lucky enough to live here next will love it just as much as we have.
