Owners Notes
We have lived here for 30 years with our five children who are now all grown up, and we have loved many things about it – the large warm and comfortable house, the Northcote neighbourhood, and especially the park.
Having the park opposite has been great for children’s birthday parties, dog walks (there are lot of very friendly walkers, and you can pick up on the neighbourhood news), picnics and evening strolls. It has been an extension of our living space, and we still use it every day. There is nothing better than sitting on the front verandah at the end of a hard day with a glass of wine and having an unimpeded view into the park watching the comings and goings of the local community.
There is so much in walking distance. It is five minutes across the park to the train station, there are two bus routes within a minute or two and it is ten minutes up to the High street tram. High St also gives us a great range of restaurants and cafes for nights when we can’t be bothered cooking and the cinema in Westgarth is also an easy walk and often part of our weekend routine. The feature length glasses of wine are especially good!
Station Street Fairfield, a ten minute stroll away, is a fabulous local shopping centre, a gem for people like us who prefer traditional centres to malls. But the Northcote plaza (also an easy 10 minute walk) has supermarkets and the best fish shop for miles around – Bill and George are like old friends we have been buying their fish for decades.
We will be sad to leave the house, but it is too big for us now. The nine rooms have been used in many ways according to our changing needs. At one stage we had six as bedrooms, and a pool room for the teenagers. We have had periods of working from home with a large study, and now enjoy having a spare dining room for big family dinners. It is also a great house for parties with the big family room and back deck. We have kept chooks for many years and are prepared to leave the three Hamburgs and one Australorp with the house if the new owners would like them. They are productive layers and wonderful gentle and funny companions.
