What I love about this home:
Over the 37 years I have lived here there have been many changes to my home and the neighborhood. It has been a pleasure to be part of that and help develop and modernize my home. I have loved the Victorian features including high ceilings, front verandah with lace work, and the detail in the plaster work. Being able to combine this with modern extensions and facilities has made the house very comfortable, functional and spacious. The northerly aspect and ROW fill the house with light all year and the warming winter sun streams in through all the windows. The zoned design has enabled me to work from home and keep my work and private life separate. It has been very freeing to walk upstairs at the end of the day and enjoy the open space and views of Carlton North, and be able to sip a gin and tonic on the balcony watching the sunset.
Although it is close to the city and transport, it offers peace and quiet. The courtyard garden is like a sanctuary inside the house and can be enjoyed from the kitchen, gallery and the office. The front garden is easy to maintain and seasonal flowers can brighten up the front of the house.
What I love about this suburb:
There is so much I love about living in Carlton North from friendly community and heritage houses to the many parks and gardens. Rathdowne Village caters to many tastes in food and coffee as well as offering all the essentials: pharmacy, news agency, hairdressers, dressmaker, fruit and vegetables. I love to wander up to the Kent hotel for dinner, receive a warm welcome at my favorite coffee shop, have a gelati on a hot day, or chat with locals when I am shopping or walking. It is lovely to be called by your name and be part of this friendly community.
I love to walk for exercise and we are spoilt for choice with the parks, bike and walking tracks. Being close to public transport offers easy access to the city, concerts, galleries, and more parks and restaurants. Although there is always someone to greet when you leave your house, there is complete privacy when you shut your front door.
Why I am selling:
After 37 years it is time to downsize and let someone else enjoy this house. However, I am staying in the area because I love it so much. I wish the new owners many happy years in the house that I have nurtured and developed.
