Elegantly renovated Victorian home in a prized Kensington street

Commanding a blue-ribbon address in a quiet tree-lined street in the heart of Kensington, 'St Albans' is an exquisite freestanding Victorian residence cleverly transformed for luxury low maintenance living by a sympathetic custom renovation from Nic Owen Architects. Set on a large allotment (278.74m2 approx) and in a very tightly held pocket with historic appeal, this alluring home is strolling distance to city trains, village shops and cafes, Kensington Community Recreation Centre, parks and local schools. Framed by beautiful established gardens, the gracious weatherboard façade reveals a wide arched hallway and two king sized bedrooms each with built-ins and a decorative fireplace, including one that is currently configured as a home office. Further on is a stunning central CaesarStone bathroom with a bath and rainshower and side access. The gourmet CaesarStone kitchen has premium stainless steel gas appliances plus a Bosch dishwasher, an integrated fridge/freezer and bespoke cabinetry. Flooded in natural light through large windows is a spacious living and dining area (with a Heat & Glo gas fireplace) flowing to a sun-drenched entertaining deck and native gardens with a tranquil patio and gate to ROW access. Peaceful and private, this freestanding home features a European laundry, split system a/c, soaring ceilings with rosettes, spotted gum floors, double glazing, full insulation & side gate access. A must see for those searching for a quality home in a prime lifestyle location! Nelson Alexander Pty Ltd

Owners Notes

Funny how things work out – when I moved from Perth, I thought I would buy on the east side of the city until a friend told me about Kensington. I had lived in Melbourne previously but didn’t know Kensington. I bought my house in Wolseley Parade in 2005 after falling in love with the treelined street and the beautiful Kensington village atmosphere. The day I moved in, my neighbours introduced themselves and I was warmly welcomed to the community. I am going to miss my wonderful neighbours.  It’s a beautiful place to live, close to the city, parks, cafes, transport at your doorstep, and yet it’s quiet, diverse and friendly.

I undertook a renovation in 2014, as I wanted to improve the comfort of this  lovely Victorian house while preserving the charm of the original  cottage –  I needed a home that suited my busy life, a place of space and light that was private and simple to live in and easy to look after. I worked with Nic Owen, Architect who specialises in inner city residential architecture. He really understood what I needed and that I wanted a beautiful space to come home to.

A small sun-room extension was removed and replaced with a black steel and double-glazed glass extension. Large picture frame windows supply light into the existing structure. A new timber deck extends the living space and wraps up over the boundary fence to create a unique privacy screen. A new kitchen, bathroom and laundry completed the upgrade. Whilst the total footprint of the house has not changed; I call it my ‘Kensington Palace’.

I love to garden but have a very busy life, so my garden is drought tolerant, simple to look after, with something for every season but its more about enjoying than working in.

I’m moving back to Western Australia to be closer to family in retirement but reluctantly leaving the gorgeous St Albans and the happy community of Kensington.

They are a amazing team - they ensure your up to date with every step in the process and communicate well throughout with you, as well as each other, making the sale process less stressful. Charlie was quietly personable and patient, and was happy to answer queries. He made a huge difference to what was otherwise a pretty stressful situation.
