5/245 Barkly Street has been my little Soul Bedder for the last 10 years.
A soul that has inspired and taught me what quality of life can and should be.
I have told my best stories here yet and smile at the new stories someone else will get to tell.
2011 marked my purchase. I remember walking in for the first time and looking past it’s outdated skin
onto its sturdy brick bones and grinned from head to toe at all the natural light. Morning light from
the east, all day light from the north, afternoon light from the west.
It was a little city oasis tucked away high and amongst the trees.
It had soul and I knew at that moment I needed to have it.
Over the 10 years I lived and worked here, smiling every morning. I transformed its spaces from a
standard one bedroom into a large souled, one bedroom…
- New Bathroom… I love a bath
- New Kitchen to boot
- Dining for a comfortable 6… transforms into a sweet workspace too
- Storage… um… a must!
I poured my little architect soul into it and to say the least it paid off 10-fold.
I smile everyday here.
It’s easy to tell you all the things you can see I’ve done, but some of the things you won’t notice at
first glance:
- Go grab a coffee and croissant from the gorgeous ladies at Toast… most definitely the best
in town. We might even meet there… I’ll be driving from Thornbury
- Bars, food, wine… need I say more… you’re in the heart of Fitzroy North
- Sit on the balcony with a coffee (Toast) or wine (Blackhearts) any time of day with a view
over the trees
- Share the love of the community around 5/245. The neighbours are always looking out for
each other, perks of good neighbours’ equal free lemons and herbs
… and the list goes on.
Now, with all this love, you’re probably asking why I’m letting my Soul Bedder go? It’s not by choice.
Sadly, I have to say goodbye. My 10-year-old, little dream of a home has now outgrown my little
expecting and really, they will need their own room… selfish of me otherwise. I hope to add the soul
of this place into my tad bigger purchase sort of close by.
So, to whoever you might be, you will love 5/245 Barkly as much as me and if not more. Look after
her and she will look after you.
