Designer Living with Architectural Finesse
Owners Notes
Our family has lived at 86 Michael St Fitzroy North for 4 years, after renovating (and entirely structurally rebuilding) it in 2014, but with child number 3 joining the family recently we have decided it is time to upsize. We have loved every minute of our time here – the location is amazing and we have especially enjoyed the house’s close proximity to the excellent coffee at Mitte and Edinburgh Gardens, with its footy ovals, playgrounds and skate bowl. We rarely get in the car.
Points of interest
The house is a short walk to:
- Two train stations (Rushall and Clifton Hill) which run on different lines
- Two trams (the 86 down Smith St and the 112 down Brunswick St)
- Two supermarkets (Piedemontes on St George’s Rd and McCoppins on Queens Parade)
- The Collingwood swimming pool and leisure centre
- Multiple bike paths in all directions
- St John’s, Clifton Hill and Fitzroy North Primary schools
- The cafes, shops and restaurants of both the Clifton Hill and Fitzroy North Villages
Added features to the house
- Built-in underfloor wine cellar
- Extensive custom joinery in every room as well as a large attic for storage
- Large windows and skylights which bring vast amounts of light into the house and banks of louvres (with fly screens) allow for great cross ventilation during summer
- Smart fibre wiring throughout the house and hybrid coaxial cable available out the front
- Full hydronic heating (in the downstairs polished concrete floor and wall panels) which means the house is always toasty and warm, along with heated towel rails in the bathrooms
- Ducted air conditioning downstairs and reverse cycle split systems in both upstairs bedrooms. Ceiling fans in both downstairs bedrooms
- Large range cooker in the kitchen (belling run cooking classes to teach you how to use it – it is amazing) and polished concrete bench tops throughout the house which were poured onsite
- Upstairs bathroom featuring a double shower and exceptionally comfortable freestanding stone bath, the weight of which the floor was specially reinforced to bear
- Built-in pet doors to allow your furry friends access to the backyard and side lightwell. We built the fences in the backyard extra high to prevent any escapes
- The surrounding properties are home to some amazing and friendly neighbours, and there is unrestricted parking on Michael and Rowe Streets
