An Innovative Delight, Thoughtfully Conceived & Responsibly Transformed

Unassuming by the charming, period façade, the interior of this property provides modern refinements and premium fixtures and fittings in abundance. With thought for liveability, high performance design, and energy efficiency underpinning every update to this classic 1870's Victorian worker's cottage, the result is an impressive property that showcases innovation at every turn, providing an aspirational backdrop to the ultimate urban lifestyle.
Upon entering, be greeted by a generous living area with open fireplace, the size of which is enhanced and illuminated by the atrium above, before leading off to the first of three bedrooms. Equipped with built-in robes and a custom wall-bed unit (aka Murphy bed) with built-in desk, the space embodies flexible living, able to switch effortlessly between home office and guestroom.
The remaining 2 bedrooms, zoned upstairs for privacy, are each equipped with built-in robes, split systems for heating/cooling, and Energy Recovery Ventilators which maintain relative humidity levels by supplying fresh, outside air in an energy efficient manner, helping promote a good night's sleep. The master offers an atrium retreat; a conservatory-type space adjoining the bedroom that supplies an abundance of natural light and provides a sanctuary catered to rest and relaxation. Also situated upstairs is the modern, central bathroom which features double showerhead, Phoenix tapware, and a Velux double-glazed electric skylight.
Moving into the back end of the home, the gourmet kitchen is defined by the clean lines and minimalist design of the white cabinetry, and the Dekton high-tech stone that coats the benchtops and backsplash. Equipped with Miele appliances, the double oven setup consists of a pyrolytic wall oven and 3-in-1 speed oven (including microwave), induction cooktop, and integrated XL capacity dishwasher, while the Italian-designed Sirius rangehood boasts maximum extraction power for minimum decibels. This area also houses the built-in dining bench with under-seat storage, and looks out on to the paved courtyard, complete with ROW access.
Additional highlights include double glazing with low emissivity, argon-filled glass throughout, and cordless, motorised, thermal double-celled, honeycomb blackout blinds on all windows.
Flanked by Brunswick Street retail and entertainment precinct, plus the convenience of transport (tram routes 11/86/96), and the tranquil Carlton Gardens, the cosmopolitan lifestyle on offer leaves nothing to be desired.

Owners Notes

What we love about this home:

  • Almost all glass windows and doors are double glazed with Low E (low emissivity), argon filled glass to improve insulation. This considerably improves thermal efficiency, greatly reduces sound pollution, and improves security.
  • All windows have cordless, motorised, thermal double-celled honeycomb blinds. They further enhance thermal efficiency, keeping the home cool in summer and warm in winter. Also provides full-blackout. Why motorised? Test out the remotes!
  • The kitchen is a combination of one person who loves to cook while the other is an engineer. So only Miele appliances would do! Double oven setup consisting of pyrolytic wall oven and 3-in-1 speed oven which includes a microwave, an induction cooktop and integrated XL capacity dishwasher (no need to handwash your long-stemmed Riedels again!). An Italian-designed Sirius rangehood tops off your kitchen creations with maximum extraction power for minimum decibels.
  • Still in the kitchen… benchtops, backsplash and waterfall are Dekton, a high-tech sintered stone that is carbon neutral. This high-performance work surface means it is extreme temperature (and fire) resistant, water and stain resistant, scratch and impact resistant, abrasion resistant and UV resistant.
  • The downstairs 3rd bedroom is the embodiment of flexible living. The integrated home office desk easily pivots down when you pull the handles above to transform into a wall bed (aka Murphy bed) for your guests. Once they leave, just fold up to resume ‘working-from-home’.
  • We can’t talk about ‘thoughtfulness’ without integrating clever, efficient storage solutions. Throughout the home many space ideas have been designed such as the abundance of storage in the wallbed unit, expansive pantry/cabinetry in the kitchen, hidden under-bench drawers in the dining and floating recycled timber shelving everywhere.
  • The strange white boxes in each upstairs bedroom (which are not the aircon units) are Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) which supply fresh outside air to indoor spaces in an energy efficient manner. It helps maintain relative humidity levels in this home and provides a fresh, healthy and comfortable indoor environment. There are 2 systems ventilating this tightly built home and further promotes a good night’s sleep.
  • The upstairs bathroom features a double showerhead, Phoenix tapware and Velux double-glazed electric skylight.
  • Finally you’ve made it, welcome to the atrium retreat. Functionally, this room supplies an abundance of natural light and ventilation to the home but personally, we love its connection to the outdoors, offering a sanctuary to relax and recharge from a vibrant Fitzroy life.
