Understated from the Street, thoughtful all the way through
A central hallway runs through the home, leading to a generous bedroom filled with natural light and could easily be returned to its original two-room layout. The main bedroom sits quietly to the side as a genuine retreat, with leafy outlooks and a well-considered ensuite finished in warm, earthy tones. A formal living room opens to a central courtyard, bringing light and a sense of calm into the middle of the home, while the central bathroom is positioned for everyday practicality.
At the rear, the extension opens things up. The kitchen has its own clear identity, finished with timber benchtops and designed specifically for this space rather than following trends. It flows into dining and family living areas that look out to the deck and established east-facing garden beyond. Large windows and French doors draw in the light and create an easy connection between inside and out.
The garden is well established and generous, with room to sit, gather, or simply enjoy the light as it shifts through the day. A rear studio with a northern aspect and its own toilet adds flexibility, whether for work, guests or creative use, with a small loft nook and additional storage completing the space.
Added features include hydronic heating, ceiling fans, gas heater in open plan area, custom built storage throughout, alarm and off-street parking within the front setback.
It’s a short walk to Dennis Station, parks and trails, Westgarth Village, Station Street, and it’s in the Westgarth Primary School zone.

What we love about this home
The minute we saw this house we fell in love with it. It has so much charm and warmth. It was originally a school house in Mt Evelyn, then moved to Westgarth just over 100 years ago.
Since then it has evolved with an extension in the 80s that included the spacious open plan living and dining at the back. We completed an architect designed extension in 2014 that included heating, new bathrooms, lots of storage and garden views. There is so much space – during COVID we were so comfortable and everyone had a place for studying or working from home.
There are beautiful rooms with lots of natural light. There is also the huge garden we can just disappear in - the cat and the dog just love it. We enjoy tending the veggie patch.
The bungalow has been a great asset – we have used flexibly as an extra bedroom, a garden studio and a music room at various times.
What we love about this suburb:
It is so family friendly – great schools, nice people who say hello to you on the street
Cul de sac living means very little traffic
Really near a fast train to the city, buses and trams. This is also a very walkable neighbourhood with plenty that is accessible by foot.
Amazing parks and trails– starting with Yarra Bend park, Merri Creek plus Oldis Gardens and Johnson Park
We LOVE Westgarth village –it has everything you need – organic grocery, yoga and pilates, wine bars, a cinema, restaurants and clothing, pharmacy etc. And it’s 5 minutes walk away or easy parking.
Northcote plaza – fantastic food shopping and 2 Coles – what more do you want (see Northcote Plaza Appreciation Society on Facebook)
Rucker’s Hill – the views, the restaurants, the bars and the coolest vibe in Melbourne!
Why are we selling:
Empty nesters so time to find a smaller nest.
