Alameda - Steeped in Alphington History

When they say "unique opportunity", this is what they really mean. Nestled in idyllic parkland surrounds, with on-title access direct to the Yarra River, sits the original 1907 timber Queen Anne/Federation attic-style house, in immaculate condition, with all its charm retained lovingly throughout the years. This is a prime example of the architecture of the time; from the asymmetric layout, hipped and gabled roof, octagonal turret, polygonal bay windows, to the angled fireplaces, ceiling roses, deep cornices, original hardwood floorboards and decorative timber fretwork. The home is enhanced by a mature garden, original garden cottage, and an additional garden studio added by the current owner to create delightful "his and hers" studios in keeping with the style, in the beautiful grounds.
Inside, the expansive layout includes three bedrooms, spacious formal drawing room and dining room, updated bathroom and separate powder room, large modern kitchen and light-filled meals/living area over looking the garden. Loads of storage space. Up the stairs, find a beautiful fully converted attic to a retreat/third bedroom.
Very rarely do you find this combination of heritage character and loving upkeep, with the bonus of fabulous parkland surrounds and direct river access. This really is one-of-a-kind, and a wonderful historic place for a family, close to Alphington Primary and many outstanding private and state schools, and only 15 minutes to the city. Register your interest today. Land size 726sqm (approx.). Nelson Alexander Pty Ltd.

Owners Notes

What we love about Alameda:

With its open layout and expansive living areas, the home has a wonderful feel. It is fantastic for entertaining and big parties. At Christmas we love to decorate with lights and it is a fairy tale home, with the Christmas tree in the front portico window.

The kids adore the gardens and playing out the back. The large garden is easy to maintain and the roses bloom from October through to April. There is storage everywhere inside. The upstairs bedroom is everyone’s favourite space as it is so private, serene and has fantastic views.

We share the place with Lorikeets, Kookaburras, Tawny Frogmouths and the occasional Cockatoo, resident Blue-tongue Lizards, and Microbats sometimes swoop around the front garden at dusk. It is wonderful living on the Yarra and so much parkland. We will miss our neighbours – we love to catch up through the back fence, borrow eggs or flour and look out for each other. We will also miss having our own studios outside.

Coming home to such a picturesque, romantic home still takes our breath away.

What we love about this Alphington:

Alphington is a very special place to live. There is a real sense of community. We love wandering down to the Yarra river for walks or a run, along to Alphington Wetlands, Rudder-grange or across the river and around to Fairfield Boathouse or the Kew wetlands, and have treasured the quiet bushland feel so close to the city.

We walk the kids to Alphington Primary School along the river, and it is an easy cycle to the city. Dinner on a Friday night at the Bowls Club is lots of fun.
