Owners Notes
I moved to 105 O’Grady Street from Geelong after my wife passed away in 2003. At that time, I was working in the city and took full advantage of the nearby train and tram services (just 10 minutes to Flinders Street). Since retiring in mid 2003, I have relished the opportunity to sit back and ’smell the roses’ with my French Bulldog (now sadly adopted by a toffy family in Brighton after I wrecked my achilles).
The previous owner had fully renovated and expanded the house leaving me to add features like the skylights in the hallway, plantation shutters and bookcases for my ever expanding library. The studio has allowed me to dabble uninterrupted in oils when the mood overtakes me and I enjoy pottering in the low maintenance garden.
But if that makes me sound like a social outcast, nothing could be further from the truth. Friendly and generous neighbours on either side, a constant stream of locals escorting their dogs to the adjacent Yarra Bend parklands and the cosmopolitan precinct of nearby Queens Parade all add to the perfect location in this quiet corner of Clifton Hill.
For those who enjoy walking, there is the Merri Creek Trail, the Abbotsford Convent, the Fairfield Boathouse and the recently re-opened Children’s Farm. Or take a longer stroll along the Yarra to the Studley Park Boathouse for lunch or coffee.
I will be sad to leave this lovely home but the younger generation has summoned me to Sandringham where they can ‘keep an eye on Poppa’.
