Exquisite Victorian home in the iconic heart of Fitzroy
Blending Victorian elegance, contemporary style and effortless functionality, this exquisite terrace has been custom tailored for classic inner city living. Defined by a magnificent extension embracing the glorious northeast aspect, it boasts spacious open plan interiors and tranquil alfresco entertaining. Ready to move straight in, this handsome abode enjoys a neighbourly corner address, steps to Brunswick Street cafes and city trams. Beyond a tuckpointed façade, with striking street art on the eastern side, are two king sized bedrooms each with built-ins and a gas fireplace, and a sleek bathroom with a shower over a bath and integrated laundry. Drenched in light at the back is a superb living and dining area flowing through bi-fold doors to a deluxe courtyard beneath a retractable shade, which provides a leafy sanctuary to entertain. The gourmet CaesarStone kitchen has premium Miele fixtures, bespoke cabinetry and a breakfast bar. Upstairs is a stunning master retreat with a walk-in robe and plush twin ensuite offering a spa bath and shower. It features hydronic heating, split system a/c, soaring ceilings, polished timber floors, heated bathroom floors and rails, an alarm and extensive storage.
69 Cecil St has been our home for the past 8 years, and we’ve loved it as both a carefree young couple, and a growing family of four.
The location is superb, with easy access to the many benefits of inner north/city living – great cafes, restaurants and shops, exceptional parks/playgrounds, Fitzy pool, the Yarra trails and the CBD. Public transport is excellent, and the parking is good (3 permits). But why tram or drive when you can walk, push a pram, or ride a bike just about anywhere?!
Cecil St has a friendly and vibrant feel about it. It is very social – there is always someone ready to greet you as you stroll out your front door. The “Cecil Street village” would do anything for its residents; something that was especially helpful and comforting as parents of young kids (last minute babysitting or neighbourly play dates), and during the COVID lockdowns (even those who lived by themselves say they never really felt alone).
The house looks and feels great, but it’s also very functional. Everything works and it is very easy to maintain. The main renovation done by the previous owner (a structural engineer) was excellent, and we have continued to make further improvements (both cosmetic and functional) over the past 8 years, which we think have further improved the look, feel and liveability of the place.
Some of the things we love most about the house are the beautiful natural light (north facing, side windows and skylights); the kitchen, which has excellent bench and draw space; and the courtyard, which is a green oasis by day and a wonderful entertaining space in the evening. The house is much more spacious than you’d expect, with three generous bedrooms (the front would be a great home office too), a study area, two big bathrooms, lots of storage, no wasted space and a courtyard that functions as an extension of the living room.
It has been a truly wonderful home that has catered effortlessly to the changes in our lives. We have absolutely loved living here and are sure that you would love it just as much!
