Owners Notes

What we love about this home:

There are so many things we love about this home!

The freshly renovated spacious kitchen is at the centre of the home including a walk-in pantry and a breakfast bar so you can chat while dinner is being prepared. There is ample natural light throughout the whole house, including beautiful morning sunlight in the front two bedrooms and living room - our favourite thing to do on a weekend is stay in bed or sit on the couch and watch birds visit the front garden at daybreak. Better yet is finishing a weekend lounging in the bathtub. We immediately loved the original timber floors when we purchased the house, so we had them sanded back to their original colour which gives the house a beautiful natural brightness.

Sustainability and comfort are built in to this house with a solar panel system, 15,000L water tank, split system for heating and cooling, roof insulation and thermal block-out blinds. Thanks to the combination of solar and electric appliances including a new induction cooktop and the split system, our bills are well below average. We have lots of hobbies, so adding significant storage was a priority for us - now the house is full of storage space (including built-in robes in all three bedrooms) and the 6x3 metre shed has room for every project.

What really makes this home stand out from others in Reservoir is the enormous garden. We immediately fell in love with the enormous shade tree in the back garden - one of the largest in the area - and spend the warmer months sitting underneath it admiring the garden. We love growing our own food and so have added a large veggie garden and 14 fruit trees including avocado, apple, cherry, apricot, peach, orange, lemon, lime and so forth! Because of how close the Darebin Creek is, on a daily basis we see cockatoos, galahs and lorikeets - recently we’ve even spotted black cockatoos and hawks!

What we love about this suburb:

The best thing about this location has been the community - this is the first home we’ve lived in where we’ve really gotten to know our neighbours. There are lots of young professionals and families with kids around.

There is so much to do around the local area - we walk daily to Darebin Creek trail which is only 5 minutes from the front door. The Leisure Centre including gym, pool, velodrome and community centre is also only 5 minutes away, and it’s a short walk to brunch at local cafes like Northside and Lady Bower. The best churros in the North are a mere 2 minutes down the road at the McMahon Rd shops - and an op-shop even recently moved in! On weekends we venture further along the creek to Bundoora Park to visit the emus, kangaroos, farm animals and incredible bird life. Riding our bikes, the highest point in all of metro Melbourne (Mount Cooper in Bundoora Park) is only 4km away.

Shopping is super easy with a Kmart, Coles and Aldi just down at Summer Hill Shopping Centre. Northland is only 7 minutes drive down the road for all other shopping needs.

A big reason we chose this spot was how quickly we could get into the CBD for work. There are two bus lines literally outside the front door, including one that goes to Reservoir station. Walking to Reservoir train station takes us 15 minutes, or about the same to the 86 tram. Best of all, we were both able to ride our bikes into our offices utilising the Saint Georges Road bike trail.

Why we are selling:

We bought this house with the intention of making it a home and raising a family here over the decades to come. We’ve certainly turned this into a wonderful home in the time we’ve been here, but COVID has changed everything. Both of our jobs have been made remote - something we never thought possible - and so we’ve made the decision to move regionally to be closer to family. We’re sad to be leaving such a comfortable and beautiful space, but feeling hopeful that someone else will fall in love with it as we have.
