Owners Notes
We have had the privilege of living in the most beautiful part of one of the best streets in Melbourne for the last 10 years. The iconic median strip dotted with palm trees, neighbouring terrace houses, framed by a magical view of the city.
Carlton North is a community. Our morning ritual involves a stroll with our bulldog Rufus and our coffee cups to Rathdowne Village (300m), stopping to talk with friendly faces along the way. We have everything on our doorstep: green grocers, a butcher, delicatessen, pharmacy, boutiques, bakeries, cafes, pubs and restaurants. One of life’s simple pleasures is being on a first name basis with the local proprietors who know our coffee order and the type of apples we prefer.
Our location has gifted us an incredible lifestyle. We have the very best of Carlton North and Fitzroy North within 1km. Saturday mornings at the Carlton Farmer’s Market (600m) and shopping – featuring an espresso and ricotta donut – at Piedimonte’s (1km). Lazy days with friends sitting on long trestle tables on the median strip, Curtain Square (250m) and Edinburgh Gardens (900m). Our favourite coffee shops – Fledgling Espresso (350m), Florian (700m) and Standing Room (1km). Long lunches, dinners and wines at Brico (220m), Gerald’s Bar (400m), Neighbourhood Wine (400m) and Public Wine Shop (900m). Relaxed meals at our favourite neighbourhood pubs – the Kent (450m), the Royal Oak (550m) and the Great Northern (700m).
Travelling into the city is a breeze – a 35 minute walk, a 10 minute bike ride or drive, 15 minutes on the bus on Rathdowne Street or the 96 tram on Nicholson Street. Walking up Canning Street until it opens into the grand Carlton Gardens and popping out the other side in the CBD has been our morning ‘commute’ – a real luxury.
Canning Street is not only beautiful – we count our neighbours as friends. They are the kind of neighbours who bring your bins in, collect your mail and water your garden while you are away, and come to your rescue in the middle of baking when you realise you don’t have enough eggs. This is a tight-knit community where you feel safe and supported.
Some of our favourite things about 432 Canning Street are the street frontage, the beautiful period features and high ceilings, and the view from our front bedroom. We know this home will bring you the same enjoyment and richness of daily life it has brought to us for many years to come.
