Edwardian belle in the heart of Preston
Beyond its picket-fenced garden and gorgeous facade, the home’s light-filled interior showcases two large bedrooms with built-in robes both sharing an updated bathroom and additional (2nd) WC.
A wide central living room provides the perfect place to relax leading through to the open dining area and adjoining stone-top kitchen that comes with Smeg cooking appliances, Bosch dishwasher and ample cupboard space.
Split-system heating/cooling, high ceilings and hardwood floors all add to the allure, along with a full-size laundry and the energy efficiency of solar power.
Double doors from the dining area reveal an alfresco entertaining deck looking out to the sunny backyard garden, plus undercover sideway storage, oversized single garage and second secure off-street parking space – both accessed via the rear laneway.
Footsteps to High Street cafes and retail, along with Bell Station, Preston City Oval and iconic Preston Market, it’s also close to a choice of bus routes, Preston South Primary School and Preston High School (zoned to both).
Owners Notes
What do you love about the home?
We love the combination of character, space and location. The home has beautiful period features including high ceilings, ceiling roses, leadlight windows, hardwood floors and open fireplaces, while still offering the comforts of a modern home. The open-plan living and dining area makes the house feel spacious and welcoming, and there is a natural flow out to the covered deck and landscaped garden. We have loved sitting on the deck catching some morning sun or enjoying drinks with friends and family in the evening. The lush leaves of the acacia trees provide a shady and calming oasis in the warmer months, and it is a pleasure to spend time in the lovely garden.
We also love having a home with a generous block of land while being so close to everything. Having brought up our young family here, being able to walk anywhere locally, or jump on a train to get into the city or surrounding suburbs has made life so simple and easy. The rear access and secure parking are particularly convenient, and the home has a lovely sense of privacy and tranquillity despite being right in the heart of Preston.
What do you love about the area?
The biggest attraction is the incredible convenience. We love being able to walk to Preston Market, High Street, our local gym a few doors down, cafés and restaurants, supermarkets and shops. There is a great mix of businesses, food, shopping and community life right on the doorstep.
Preston is not short on places to eat, drink or meet up with friends; but in addition, the delights of Thornbury and Northcote are just a short stroll or tram ride down High St. We often find that whatever we are doing, we are never far from home.
The area has excellent public transport, with trams and Bell Station nearby, while parks, schools and other amenities are all within easy reach. It has the best of both worlds - a vibrant inner-north atmosphere with everything you need close by, while still feeling like a genuine residential neighbourhood.
