What we love about this home:
In a word, the VIEW. You never tire of those vistas, looking out across the Yarra Flats. We’ve lived here for 17 years and watched the seasons come and go. In the late spring the grass paddocks are cut and turned into hay bales. In the autumn, we watch the English trees turn orange and eventually amber, before they drop their leaves and complete nature’s cycle. The views from our house change depending on whatever room you’re in. There are three bedrooms with different outlooks, all looking eastwards across the Yarra flats. The rooms at the back of the house face onto the backyard, with two gates to The Conder. It’s a sunny house, and there’s always something glorious to see, particularly the abundant birdlife, and the kangaroos that sometimes graze in the paddock below us.
What we love about this suburb:
East Ivanhoe is described by Wikipedia as the most tightly held suburb in Australia. No wonder. It has a magical blend of rural charm with proximity to the heart of the nation’s second largest city. East Ivanhoe has a village feel. The little cafes, the gentle pace of the local shopping centre, the friendliness of the village folk. It also has some great amenities, among them the Ivanhoe golf club, delightful Chelsworth Park, tennis courts and sporting fields. How rare is it to find a little patch of the Australian countryside just 10km from the Melbourne CBD.
Why we are selling:
We have become empty nesters. We raised our daughters in this house, and now the daughters are in their 20s, building their own lives, though they come back to East Ivanhoe often. After 17 years here, we feel we’re ready to downsize and allow another family to enjoy what we’ve had. Hopefully we’ll find another place in East Ivanhoe.
Any other information:
If you enjoy exercise and nature, the opportunities are laid on. The Yarra Trail is literally a minute’s stroll away. Beautiful walks, lovely bike rides, heaps of fresh air. Golf courses abound, tennis courts just around the corner, sporting fields in every direction.
Don’t be surprised when the hot air balloons drift past the balcony before they land across the Yarra Flats on the sporting fields to our east. It’s amazing to look out from our bedroom window or balcony to come face-to-face with people riding in the balloons. It’s magic!
