Tune in to the sounds of summer this January

Two of our favourite things about Melbourne in the summer are the parks and the music. Local jazz bands or singer-songwriters seem to be all over the place, and our expansive green spaces in and around Melbourne’s best suburbs make them an excellent place to be, no matter how you like to live.

And fortunately for us (and you!), these two things are coming together this summer in the City of Melbourne’s Sunset Series.

The parks are alive with the sound of music

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle recently profiled the event, which is going to run every weekend in January in the Fitzroy Gardens – just a hop, skip and a jump from great areas like Carlton North, or even Fitzroy itself.

“The Sunset Series offers live local entertainment in one of our premier parklands. It’s a great opportunity to bring your family, friends, a picnic and enjoy summer in the city,” Mr Doyle said.

Artists like Mighty Duke and the Lords, Eliza Hall, DJ Emma Peel and Gena Rose Bruce are just a few of the names you’ll find serenading locals in the park over the next few weekends. With great music in such a sterling setting, it’s a sure sign of a summer to remember.

Whether you’re passing through on a Sunday evening or want to make it a family night out, it looks like Fitzroy Gardens will be the place to visit for all your free entertainment needs.

Green all over

In addition to this great spot, there’s also Edinburgh Gardens, Princes Park and Darling Gardens to name but three of the incredibly beautiful spots you can relax in on a Sunday. If you’re looking for Melbourne’s best suburbs, you could hardly do better than taking a look at the ones that border these fantastic parks!
