Owners Notes

Deciding to say goodbye to 15 Sturt Street has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. It’s been a wonderful home for the past 8 years, and an equally incredible neighbourhood in which to live. I’ve often said to people that it’s hard to seek out a street like Sturt Street; you just have to stumble upon it. We know almost every household on the street and hold an annual progressive dinner and street party – as well as sharing many a coffee, wine or meal on each other’s back deck or loungeroom. It’s a tight-knit community, made up of residents of varying ages who look out for each other.

Sturt Street is uniquely placed in that is has very little car traffic, but plenty of foot traffic passing by the front veranda. This creates a quietly bustling atmosphere with passers-by heading to the train or the coffee shops. I duck down the road most days for a sandwich or coffee, or to pop in to the supermarket; all are within a five-minute walk. Only slightly further afield are the Capital City Trail, Maribyrnong River, Flemington Racecourse and Showgrounds.

I was drawn to Number 15 from the outset by its wide double-frontage, beautiful Edwardian pressed-metal ceilings and stained-glass window in the entry. Over more than eight years of ownership, I’ve aimed to make improvements to all areas of the house – with structural changes (new roof, re-stumping, a new veranda and fencing), cosmetic changes (painting inside and out, a refurbished fireplace, new carpets, doors and front and back landscaping), and lifestyle changes (a new back deck, brand new bathroom).

The house benefits from a flood of northern light into the bedrooms, and a secluded entertaining space on the expansive back deck. The large shed offers ample storage and a second toilet, with potential to turn into a studio space or home office. The rooms inside are generous and bright, perfectly blending period charm with modern conveniences.

Buyer Review

I recently purchased a house through…

I recently purchased a house through Nelson Alexander and dealt with Charlie Barham through the campaign and ongoing until settlement. I've found Charlie to be extremely personable, very genuine, polite and courteous. He responded to all my questions or requests with a smile and made me feel that nothing was too much trouble. When a relative visited from interstate several weeks after purchase, Charlie went out of his way to ensure that we could view the house. It's impressive that his customer service didn't end when the 'deal was done' at the end of the auction. I wish him all the best in his career.

Vendor Review

Charlie Barham and Ryan Currie were…

Charlie Barham and Ryan Currie were brilliant agents to work with. They demonstrated an expert knowledge of the area and the market, and were able to skilfully guide buyers through the sales campaign - culminating in a great result at auction. Charlie in particular was fantastic to deal with as my main point of contact throughout the process; he was thorough and direct with his advice, but also had a great way of putting me at ease as a buyer. He made me feel that he was genuinely invested in the process and was working his hardest for the best possible outcome. I would not hesitate to go straight to Charlie for my next sale, and really appreciate his enthusiasm and professionalism.
