Refurbished Edwardian terrace in a leafy Carlton pocket
Owners Notes
We purchased 77 Keppel St, ironically on 27 August 2001, when we were looking for an investment property that would provide strong capital growth and reliable rental income. Carlton ticked all the boxes. We had lived in the neighbourhood during our Uni years and loved the Carlton lifestyle.
We were instantly drawn to the house- it’s pretty façade with tessellated tiled veranda, wide frontage, many original features and the park like tranquillity of this cul-de-sac location. The property’s proximity to Lygon Street and the wonderful selection of cafes and bars, cinema, clothing and food stores; an enjoyable five-minute walk. Having Melbourne University, Princess Park and the CBD on your doorstep certainly played a part in our decision to purchase the property 21 years ago.
We restored the house and it was rented constantly, apart from a few months about 8 years ago when we repainted and put in the car parking and roller door. We have had great relationships with our many tenants and have kept the property well maintained over the years.
It was a sad day for both us and our tenants earlier this year when we decided to put the house on the market, but the time has come for us to take on some new adventures. They loved living at 77 Keppel St and the house has become part of our family. We have spent the last few months restoring this beauty to its former grandeur.
We will miss the sound of the tolling of the Newman College Chapel bell on the weekends. We know every inch of the property and have been respectfully restoring its period features together with introducing more modern comforts to create a warm and inviting home for a new owner to emotionally connect with, as we did all those years ago. We have done the hard work for you to enjoy.
