Owners Notes

Tony (my father) and Chris fell in love and bought this house in the 70s, with its charm, location, tranquil gardens and beautiful views, they loved to entertain and have friends over for dinner and drinks with the house and gardens providing options for year-round entertainment.

Tony was very hands on and loved to tinker and make things in his workshop under the house while Chris adored her garden and would spend many an hour reading in or tending to her tranquil sanctuary.

Location wise, they found it to be ideally situated being only a very short walk down to Burgundy Street in the centre of Heidelberg for all their shopping, and social needs, plus with the train station so close simplified trips to the city for them, as well as in the latter years the easy access to the Austin Hospital and surrounding specialists, afforded them the ability to stay in their loved home much longer than otherwise would’ve been possible.

Over the years, they made a number improvements to the house, updated the kitchen, added the large study/4th bedroom, updated the open fireplace, installed ducted heating and split system air-conditioners and even a ducted vacuum system. On the outside the addition of the glass covered veranda over the front patio, and on the other side a large double length steel carport. As Tony spent most of his working life within the technical side of the aircraft industry, his attention to detail, use of clever space solutions and insistence on quality shows throughout the home they made.

Since Tony’s passing almost 20 years ago, Chris continued to live at the house and enjoy its gardens and the overall peacefulness of the property looking out the windows or even in the backyard. You would hardly believe you were in a suburb of Melbourne.

Within the last 4 years the home has had a new ducted heating unit installed, new hot water service and dishwasher installed. And recent updates to the property’s underground sewer plumbing system should provide many years of carefree use. All rooms have quality louvre windows to allow controlled air flow taking full advantage of the surrounding urban bushland environment and breezes. Views from the large wall of windows across the back walls look out through the valley towards the north east over Macleod and Watsonia and out towards Mt Sugarloaf.

Unfortunately due to heath reasons Chris couldn’t stay in her beloved home for the last few years, however she would visit regularly to ensure the house was clean and her garden was being well tended by her gardener, and to just sit for a few hours to recharge her batteries in its tranquillity. Chris passed late last year, so now it is someone else’s turn to enjoy this very special part of Melbourne.
