What we love about this home:

My daughter, dog and I moved into 1/940 Lygon street in 2021 just after Covid. We moved back from the UK during Covid and wanted to find a place that was in the Carlton North neighbourhood that we know and love - my daughter went to the Lee Street School before we had to move to the UK briefly for family reasons - and could continue her journey alongside her many primary school friends to the excellent Princes Hill Secondary College just 5-minutes’ walk away. The proximity to the school has been fantastic with friends regularly dropping in or dropping off bags and catching a tram into the city together.

For most of this time I worked from home as a management consultant. The house has fibre to premises so super-fast internet, and the downstairs office has been a fabulous way to break up home and work life in the same building. I have been using one half of the double garage as a hobby workshop too which is a real luxury space in the middle of the city, but you may choose to use it for two secure offroad car parking spaces.

I cannot stress enough what a lovely neighbourhood Carlton North is to live in. It isn’t just that it is convenient - so close to the city yet so easy to get out in out for the weekends, or that the schools are rated amongst the best in Victoria, or even that we have one of the most beautiful city parks on our doorstep in Princes Park. It is the genuine sense of community. Many of the shop and café owners on Rathdowne street know our names and every time I walk the dog, I catch up with people I’ve met through the schools’ networks, in the dog parks, or just as other residents. My daughter is about to finish high school but still gets extra-large ice cream scoops from Yambos and I like to think I get a generous pour in Gerald’s Bar and the Great Northern. But all that aside, right opposite is Naughty Boy which has to be one of the best coffees and brunches in the area - again they know our names and our orders!
