Grandly proportioned family living
Owners Notes
We purchased the house in 1992 in poor condition. Over the next 18 months the house was fully renovated. The roof, all ceilings and most of the walls and floors were replaced. All doors and windows were renewed. All outbuildings were demolished and the kitchen/living room was built onto the original house. This has given us a home with the front section of the house restored to high quality Victorian standards with its high ceilings and period architraves, skirtings and cornices, while the additions at the rear of the house have given us a comfortable modern new living area with open access to the outdoor patio.
The original garage was replaced nearly 7 years ago with the 2-storey brick garage and workshop/studio. The double width right of way at the rear of the house provides easy vehicle access to the garage.
About 18 months ago, we replaced the kitchen and a couple of months ago, the downstairs bathroom. We have also repainted the house over the last 18 months or so.
We returned to Melbourne after being away for 28 years and were drawn to living close to the city with so many amenities at hand. We have a choice of 2 trams and a bus route to the city and another bus that runs between Clifton Hill and Moonee Ponds. We have also found Rushall station handy for access to Melbourne’s sporting hubs. We are spoilt for choice for supermarkets with Barkly Square and Piedimonte’s and there are so many restaurants in close proximity. There are a number of playgrounds and parks within walking distance and a number of walking/cycling paths with the Merri Creek close by.
We have enjoyed living in tree lined Barkly Street and find this a very friendly neighbourhood but unfortunately, and with much regret, we have been forced to move on.
