Boom-era beauty in Rathdowne Village
Owners Notes
79 Richardson St has been my much loved home for 18 years. I moved in when I was in my 20’s and I am now in my 40’s. Carlton North has been the perfect place to live for all these years. The 2 things I will miss most about 79 Richardson St are how light and bright it is all year round and the open plan kitchen, living and dining which has hosted many parties, dinner parties and informal occasions with family and friends. I love the vibe of Rathdowne Village, which is only a short walk away, with many great cafes, restaurants and pubs. It pretty much has every need covered. Princes Park, at the end of Richardson St has been a big part of my exercise regime over the years. The Capital City bike trail is 2 mins ride away at the end of Amess St if I felt like going a little further afield. Working in the city, I loved the accessibility by tram from Nicholson St or Lygon St as well as the bus on Rathdowne St. If I was feeling particularly energetic, it was half an hour on foot. There are always lots of car spaces around and it is easy to park out front.
Points of Interest:
- The front 2 rooms are Victorian, however the back part of the house was demolished and rebuilt by a previous owner.
- The kitchen is a passionate cook’s delight and has been completely renovated. It has lots of bench space and a great Miele oven and stove.
- The courtyard is great for entertaining and totally private.
- It is a great winter house with the sun shining in through the skylights and windows during the day and the open fire place making it so warm and cosy at night. The under floor heating means the tiles are always warm.
- With double brick walls and a concrete slab throughout, the house stays warm in winter and cool in summer.
- The house has a truly unique and sophisticated look with its high gabled ceiling, patterned tiled floor and all marble bathroom.
