A full-width flyscreen allows refreshing airflow during warmer months.

Owners Notes

What we love about this home:

We fell in love with this home the moment we saw it. There’s something really special about its character — its single-fronted Edwardian façade, bullnose verandah and beautiful old glass in the front door give it instant charm, and when the afternoon light hits the 11-foot ceilings, ceiling roses, cornices and original floorboards, it feels warm and welcoming. One of our favourite rituals has been sitting on the verandah in the evening with a drink. It’s such a lovely, gentle way to end the day, watch the world go by and a chat with neighbours walking past. Inside, the light-filled kitchen flows onto the back deck and garden, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor space where we’ve hosted many long lunches and relaxed dinners. The gardens feel like a private sanctuary with citrus, herbs and David Austin roses, and red brick and bluestone paths winding beneath the jacaranda and forest pansy.

It’s an incredibly comfortable home too, with thick plaster walls, great insulation, a gas fireplace, ducted heating and cooling, and solar panels. Thornbury offers a genuine sense of community, with neighbours gathering each Christmas on the nature strip, and everything within easy reach — High Street’s bars and restaurants is perfect for an impromptu dinner or meeting friends for a drink without worrying about driving.

What we love about the area:

Living in Thornbury offers the best of both worlds — a friendly, relaxed community where neighbours even gather on the nature strip at Christmas. It’s an easy stroll to High Street’s bars and restaurants, with Northcote just down the road for even more choice. Surrounded by parklands and walking trails, it’s wonderfully dog- and family-friendly, all while being close to the city and well connected by tram, train, bus and easy airport access.

What features does your property have?

Edwardian elegance and a rose garden.

The flexible living spaces and a large, light-filled kitchen that opens fully to a private sanctuary with high hedges and a Virginia Creeper trailing from the garage roof. An established, productive garden with fruit trees, climbing roses and drip irrigation. Inside, a cosy lounge with a gas fireplace complements the quiet bedrooms with wool carpets and great storage. A large double garage with workbenches provides excellent storage and entertaining space. Nearby parklands and trails, great public transport and quick access to the city and airport plus free, unlimited parking on Smith Street.
