Our 2020 guide to Melbourne's best Christmas lights

We think Melbourne is one of the best places in the world over the holidays; the sun is shining, and we're all finally able to start planning trips away for the summer. Plus, with Christmas only a few sleeps away the mood in the city is getting more festive every day.

One of the biggest changes you’ll notice is the Christmas decorations and light displays that are popping up everywhere from city squares to residential streets. It’s a Melbourne tradition to grab a few friends or someone special (socially distanced, of course) and spend at least one night roaming the city enjoying the festive atmosphere and the bright Christmas lights.

To help get you started here are the locations of a few of Melbourne’s best Christmas light shows.

Melbourne is famous for its Christmas lights, which are getting brighter and more festive every year.

Coleman Parade, Kew East

Every night from 8.15 PM until December 25

19 Coleman Avenue, Kew East has been a regular family favourite since 2012. With over 80,000 lights installed by the Electronic Engineer owner, all set to music with an interactive display with buttons - you don't want to miss this one! While you're in the area, be sure to also check out neighbouring Oswin Street, Kew East too.

Shaftsbury Street, Coburg

Every night from 9.00 PM - 11.30 PM until December 31

A Christmas lights wonderland in Coburg! Kids young (and old) are highly recommended to visit this Christmas display. From animated bears, giant snowglobes, lasers, bubbles, and a train - there is something for everyone. While you're in the area be sure to head around the corner to Molesworth Street, Devon Avenue, Montifore Street and The Grove who all have at least one house participating this year!

Melbourne’s best Christmas lights are easy to find – if you know where to look.

Sharp Street, Northcote

Every night from 8.30 PM - 11.00 PM until January 7

One of the most elaborate and fantastical displays in the City of Darebin this year can be found at 13 Sharp Street, Northcote. Featuring a wonderful collection of ornaments and animated decorations in bay windows including authenticated pieces from Myers! With a Christmas Story display on the roof, laser lights, and animated reindeer - it's definitely worth a visit!
